Toplumsal Muhalefetin ve Eleştirinin Taşındığı Mekânlar Olarak Kahvehaneler: Adapazarı Örneği

Abstract

This research was conducted in coffeehouses located in the city center of Adapazarı by selecting the province of Sakarya as the universe. The research attempted to determine the place and importance of coffeehouses in social life. Coffeehouses have been a part of social life since the 16th century. The most important features of coffeehouses, which have had many functions since their first appearance, are that they are educational institutions and places of criticism. The aim of the research is to determine the place and importance of coffeehouses in social life and to determine whether coffeehouses are used as places of opposition and criticism. The research was conducted in the city center of Adapazarı, the largest district of Sakarya Province. Accordingly, Adapazarı was selected as the center sample. There are approximately 300 coffeehouses in Adapazarı. Accordingly, with the idea that this would provide representation, 3-7 individuals were selected from each coffeehouse and 20 coffeehouses were reached, and a total of 100 people were surveyed. According to the findings, it was observed that the majority of the participants came to the coffeehouse to play games or spend their free time. In addition, it was observed that the majority of the individuals participating in the survey did not use the coffeehouse as a place of opposition and criticism and did not engage in political conversations in the coffeehouse.
