Abstract

A checkered pattern is a type of pattern that is repeated at regular intervals on a surface and usually consists of geometric shapes. This pattern can be created using one or more colors and often includes simple geometric elements such as rectangles, squares, triangles or rhombic shapes. Checkered patterns, which are a frequently used motif in the fields of decoration, handicrafts, architecture and textiles, are used to decorate a texture or design when repeated properly. In this study, examples of the use of the checkered pattern in architecture and handicrafts from past to present are reviewed. In this context, in this study, the origin, history, usage examples and features of the checkered pattern, which is used and is used in almost every region of the world, and its similarities are explained with modern handicrafts and architectural examples. Checkered patterns are an important part of crafts and design. These patterns, which have had different meanings in different cultures throughout history, continue to be used for aesthetic and functional purposes today. The use of checkered patterns in handicrafts is an example that reflects the place and value of traditional crafts in the modern world.
